granite cutting saw blade You can dry cut granite with a 4" grinder with a diamond tile blade on it. Serrated style is best. They run about $35 each and will last you maybe 20- 7 foot long rips. It will still do more but it gets slower and slower. Use blue tape along both sides of cut line. My x boyfriend is a licensed granite installer who does all his cutting dry- on site- with a 4" grinder. Polishing is impossible without a polisher. You can fake it by sanding as smooth as possible- then spraying with Dupi-color clear coat.(NAPA car spray paint department)

there's a good chance the saw's bed will scratch the granite. But if you're bound and determined to do this, then I would get about a half-dozen blades. Circular saws have a high rotation speed, which will wear-out the blades faster. As well, cutting it dry will also increase the wear as the heat generated will cause the blade to disintegrate. Good luck. My advice; rent a proper wet cutter.

Depends on the type of blade you buy. Diamond Saw Blade for Stone Cutting won t last a long time. If you have found a diamond blade it will last a longer time , depending on how many cuts your making and the actual hardness of the granite and quality of the blade. I can get 10 inch blades from 60 - 110$ for my wet saw and the quality is evident GL

Using a circular saw to rough cut granite?

just make sure you have an appropriate blade, wet cut, preferrably. It will however create a mess, but a dry blade will throw dust everywhere throughout your home, always remeber your safety wear also. Gloves may get in your way, but safety goggles and dust mask are a must, and being that your going to be in an over waist high position, no loose clothing. Spread some plastic and old cloth to catch most of the mess.

I have been a General Contractor for 5 years and a finisher/rough/framing/and form carpenter for 20 years. I have experience in all aspects of carpentry and home maintenance and repair. Flooring and all finish work, including cabinets and paint, vinyl, brick, metal roof, and virtually all types of turnkey construction are in my resume. I even worked at Lowes as a flooring specialist and a millworks specialist, also, worked in hardware and tools with experience in electrical (not licsensed for electrical), plumbing (not licsenced), appliance and drywall. For awhile I I worked for Temple Inland Forests and learned a good bit about wood fiber and types of wood, allowing me to better understand wood usage in different applications. Research this via the internet or visit a local forestry company and experience what I am referring to.

diamond blades for cutting granite

Ideally, granite is cut under controlled circumstances in a well-equipped shop. But there are times where that just isn't feasible or even possible. Sometimes you find a great deal on a granite top that was ordered but not picked up, or you are remodeling and want to fit an existing top somewhere else. Using your circular saw and a tile blade, you can cut granite anywhere you need to.
